Parents Information
While your child is with us you can rest assured that they are in safe hands.
Our focus is on ensuring the best level of care for your children in a safe, happy and fun environment.
Group ethos
Our aim is to help the children who attend our group to develop their confidence in physical, social, individual and spiritual areas through a varied and structured program of games, team building exercises and lots and lots of fun!!
We aim to provide this program to all children regardless of their personal circumstance or individual abilities or disabilities.
We will do this in a safe and friendly environment where all children are valued and encouraged.
Behavior and code of conduct
In order to ensure that section meetings are safe and enjoyable for all a certain level of behavior is expected from both adults and children.
All adults attending section nights will have undergone a full CRB check. All leaders and helpers are required by the scouting organisation to attend a course covering the various elements of child protection.
We will treat all children in attendance fairly and without bias. If you feel that your child has been treated unfairly in any way, by any member of the group please do not hesitate to contact your section leader or your group scout leader. If you feel that this is not an option or you continue to feel unhappy you can contact the Ilkeston District commissioner Mr. Norman Woolands.
All the adults attending scouts are volunteers. We ask that they be treated with respect by the children and their family members. They have the right to work without fear of violence or abuse. Any one who abuses our staff will be asked to leave the premises and further action may be taken.
Children are expected to behave during their time at the group, whether on section nights, group outings or camping trips. We ask that they respect each other, the adults and members of the general public.
We will not tolerate bullying in any form Any and all incidents of bullying are taken very seriously by both the scouting organisation and the group. If you are being bullied or think you know someone who is please talk to a leader in confidence. Where possible we will not reveal your identity.
Swearing and general foul language is not acceptable.
Any child displaying disruptive or unacceptable behavior may be asked to sit out of a particular activity and think about why they have been removed and what they think they can do to improve their behavior. We like to encourage the children to take responsibility for themselves and their actions on a level which they can understand.
In all sections if a child displays particularly unacceptable or repeated unacceptable behavior they may be given an official warning. This will come in the form of a letter sent home to parents. The letter will explain that if the behavior of the child does not improve they will be suspended from the group for one week.
If the leaders feel that the behavior has not improved or continues to be disruptive then a suspension letter will be issued.
If a child receives more than one suspension or the leaders feel they continue to be disruptive then the child may be asked to leave the group permanently.
This is always a last resort and to date has never happened! We will always do our best to work with children and their parents to ensure that the child can remain an active member.
Medical, behavioral and emotional issues
Please give as much detail as possible regarding any medical or behavioral issues your child may have on the personal details form. Also we find it helpful if we are aware of any emotional issues your child may be suffering from however short term (ie. Death in the family or family breakup or change) This will help us to support your child in the best possible way.
Uniform
Children are required to attend weekly meetings and other scouting events in full uniform. Each section has their own sweater or shirt which they will wear with their group necker and woggle. These should be worn with smart dark coloured (preferably navy blue) trousers or shorts. Uniforms are available from Hamiltons in Ilkeston, from the scout shop in Derby or online from www.scoutbase.co.uk. You may also find uniform on sites such as ebay.
We also have our own group T-shirts and caps for children to wear these are available from your leader.
Children should always attend group meetings with a clean and tidy appearance; most sections will have an inspection at the beginning of the session.
Subs and other payments.
In order to cover our running costs children will be required to pay a monthly subscription fee. Currently this stands at £6.00 per month excluding August payable on the first meeting of the month.
Camps and trips are not included in the monthly subscription fee. We will always make every effort to give good notice of any extra costs.
If you are struggling to meet the cost of monthly subscription or camp/trip please speak to a leader in confidence. We would like all children to attend all things and so arrangements can be made based on individual circumstance.
Faith and religion
The Scouting movement is open and accepting of the many differing faiths practiced around the world. At 4th Ilkeston we have close links with Christ Church Cotmanhay and the congregation there. We attend family services as a group on the second Sunday of most month's. On several of these occasions members of our group will take a leading role in these services. Family services are always friendly, fun, enjoyable and open to all however we respect the individual wishes of the families whose children attend our group.
